PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has urged Cambodian authorities to step in amid a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, alleging serious financial misconduct.
In letters sent to the Ministry of Justice, the investor claimed he was defrauded and financially harmed due to alleged breaches of trust and improper business dealings by Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board. The investor is seeking government support to ensure a thorough investigation and accountability.
The allegations include inflated prices in multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia, with preliminary assessments suggesting that roughly $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and that of associates. The letters also assert that fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling over $7 million, were created, alongside document forgery and large-scale cash transfers routed through shell companies linked to Yamada and his alleged partners. Some funds were reportedly moved to an overseas account registered under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The investor further claims that Yamada set up shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees while maintaining direct control of the associated bank accounts and transactions.
Within Cambodia, prosecutors have filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, and court orders have frozen assets and bank accounts. Additional investigations are reportedly ongoing. Authorities in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are also examining allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breaches of trust.
The investor’s letters emphasize the need for a comprehensive investigation, warning that suspects could attempt to obstruct justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence if not closely monitored.
The dispute remains under investigation, and Cambodian authorities have yet to issue an official public response.
